Proctors
(Density - Moisture Content Relationship)
Geotherm conducts both Modified Proctor (ASTM D1557) and Standard Proctor (ASTM D698) tests on soils and granular backfill materials.
Compaction Test establishes the maximum unit weight that a soil or backfill material can be compacted to, using a controlled compacting energy at the optimum water content
The density and moisture content values are referenced for quality control of the trench backfill materials during the construction phase. Accurate measurements of the installed density and moisture content are determined using a nuclear density gauge. These values are compared against Proctor test results and an assessment of the degree of compaction is established. For cable trench backfills, the density requirements typically span between 85% and 100% of Standard or Modified Proctor density. The mechanical specifications are based on the physical properties of the material while the thermal specifications are based on the cable rating (Ampacity) requirements.
Geotherm is pleased to offer both Modified (ASTM D1557) and Standard (ASTM D698) Proctor testing, showcasing our commitment to deliver specific test precision. Our team of experts is dedicated to optimizing selection of readily available materials and the compaction processes, ensuring the highest quality outcomes for your projects.
