Undisturbed
Tube Samples

Uncover a wealth of insights hidden within the untouched samples you provide. Our team of experts is well-versed in preserving the integrity of undisturbed materials, allowing for precise testing that goes beyond the surface.

An undisturbed sample, often obtained through techniques like cable percussion boring, is a soil sample that remains completely intact when extracted from beneath the ground surface. This method ensures minimal disruption to the sample's natural structure, water content, stress distribution, and density. Preserving these key attributes is essential for a comprehensive examination and analysis of the soil's behavior in its true subsurface environment.

How to Ship This Samples

Cohesive soils
Step 1

Cohesive soils

If Cohesive soils (clayey or silty) are encountered, samples should be taken in nominal 3” diameter Shelby tubes or in a large diameter (6 inches) California sampler with brass liners (preferably no 1 inch rings samplers).

    Step 2

    Important

For the analysis to be successful, do not extrude the sample from the Shelby tube.

      Identification of Samples
      Step 3

      Identification of Samples

Identify the samples with Project Name, Sample ID, Location, Bore Hole, Depth, Date samples taken, etc. The samples should be representative of the soil from the cable burial depth and above. Include a copy of the borehole logs.

        If Bedrock is encountered
        Step 4

        If Bedrock is encountered

take core samples (minimum 2” diameter by 5” long) or block samples of about 5” cube of irregular shape.
